History

In 2008, the Faculty of Law, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta officially opened an International Program called the International Program for Law and Sharia (IPOLS). The program, which is held in English, offers various advantages and uniqueness, including: sharia-based legal concepts, Competency-Based Curriculum, a conducive environment, as well as various internationalization activities. This program is open to both local and foreign students. The aim of this program is to produce law graduates who have character and understand positive law and Islamic law. In the end, IPOLS graduates are able to analyse and handle the complexities of legal issues, contribute to the development of national law and able to compete at local, national, and global levels, also to uphold justice, serve the nation, state and people.

The study load to become a law graduate at IPOLS is 145 credits including 20 credits on sharia-based courses such as Introduction to Islamic Law, Zakat Waqf Law, Islamic Civil & Criminal Law, Islamic Banking and Finance Law, Islamic State Politics, Islamic Judicial Procedural Law and Kemuhammadiyahan. The average study period at IPOLS is 3.5 to 4 years.
